Circle Hook Reminder June 5, 2008 The rule regarding circle hooks in billfish tournaments has been in effect since the first of the year, and just to set the record straight, the rule currently reads that an HMS permitted vessel, (you must have an HMS Permit to fish for Atlantic billfish) fishing in a billfish tournament must use non-offset circle hooks with natural bait (and therefore natural/artificial combos). There is no exception based on leader size, pound-test, big baits or big bait combos. The only place a J-hook can be is on a pure artificial lure or in your tackle drawer.
